HOUSTON PHILMONT PROJECT
changing lives one step at a time

What is the Houston Philmont Project?

The Houston Philmont Project is an annual high-adventure backpacking trek to Scout BSA's Philmont Scout Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the east side of the Cimarron Range of the Rocky Mountains near  Cimmaron, NM.

Application for participation is open to registered Scouts of Sam Houston Area Council at least 14 years old as of June 1.

The HPP is designed to give opportunity and access to underprivileged and socio-economic disadvantaged Scouts who may not have the resources or support to join a local trek.

Accepted participants only pay a small deposit.  All camp fees, travel fees, food, lodging, clothing and gear are provided.  What they get in return is a once in a lifetime challenge that is truly life-changing.

HEAR FROM PAST PARTICIPANTS

"Being out in the woods and backcountry can change a person. It can help you connect with your inner self and think about many different things.  At Philmont I learned a lot of important things. The most prominent of which is to be open minded, positive and energetic."

Nicholas - Crew Leader 2013
